Used Oil FiltersUsed oil filters disposed of in landfills currently pose a significant threat to Ohio's drinking water. A study done at the University of Iowa demonstrated that used oil contains varying amounts of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, barium, chromium, and arsenic. In addition used oil contains over 2-dozen known carcinogenic compounds. The good news is that used oil filters are 100% recyclable, from the oil trapped in the filter, to the metal filter canister, right down to the filter media. (more)

Used Oil Used oil is exactly what its name implies, any petroleum-based or synthetic that has been used. During normal use, impurities such as dirt, metal scrapings, water or chemicals, can get mixed in with the oil, so that in time, the oil no longer performs well. Eventually, this used oil must be replaced with virgin or re-refined oil to do the job correctly. If you are one of the many people who change their own motor oil, you too need to know how to properly dispose of the used oil. Did you know that the used oil from one oil change can contaminate 1 million gallons of fresh water - a years' supply for 50 people! (more) |
Used Antifreeze Used antifreeze makes up a significant portion of many businesses' waste streams. Instituting a recycling program can significantly reduce costs associated with the handling, storage and disposal of used antifreeze. Recycling antifreeze can also reduce new material purchase costs. New technology allows antifreeze to be recycled onsite and reconditioned with additives at a cost that is significantly lower than the cost of purchasing new antifreeze. (more) |
